Last month’s RTA plate auction has exceeded expectations, and the $2 million dollars in sales mark.
RTA General Manager of the Special Number Plates division Geoff Drummond says the “choose your own” rare plates auction held by Shannons for the RTA, raised $2.4m.
“The $2.4 million included three “choose your own” plates, the first ever numeral only rare pink plate and 45 plates of rare three, four and five digit combinations,” Geoff Drummond says.
“The highest bid of $115,000 for the three-digit plate number 215 with the same bidder also snapping up number 214 for $110,000.
“The total amount raised at this auction has far surpassed any expectations with bidders taking the opportunity to buy investment pieces for the future,” Geoff Drummond says.
The first ever numeral only pink plate in NSW, with the number 922 auctioned, was bought by Sydney lawyer Stephen Aroney of Mills Oakley law firm, as an investment for his three year old daughter.
“I’m thrilled to own the only pink numeral plate in NSW and to have contributed to a worthy cause.
“I plan to keep it as a family investment and hand it down to my three year old daughter when she is old enough,” Aroney says.

“The numeral only rare pink plate raised a total of $74,000 with 25% being donated to the McGrath Foundation,” Geoff Drummond says.
