Melbourne Motor Show: A showcase for future talent

For anyone considering a career in the automotive industry, the Melbourne Motor Show (February 27 – March 9) is the place to be.
As well as a chance to look at the fabulous cars on display, there will be plenty of practical advice for anyone considering a career in the automotive industry.
The Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce (VACC) is at the forefront of promoting the automobile industry to apprentices and mature students.
“VACC is the largest employer of automotive apprentices in Victoria and is also a Registered Training Organisation (RTO),” VACC Executive Director, David Purchase said.
“Right now, despite the economic down-turn, there is a still a skills shortage in automotive technicians.
“Anyone thinking of pursuing a career in the automotive industry should spend some time at our stand at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre. You can’t miss it. It’s the one with Darren Morgan’s Force-Tools/VACC Top-Fuel Drag car and the VACC sponsored Holden Race Team V8 Supercar.
“Our trained advisers would love to meet you and discuss life as an auto-apprentice. Who knows where it might lead to?
“VACC puts the upmost importance on training. Without the next generation of mechanics and skilled technicians, the industry will lose its competitiveness. That is why it is vital that young people are given a taste of the industry and supported every step of the way, in order to achieve their dreams,” Mr Purchase said.
“For anyone interested in vehicle design and model-making, a visit to the VACC ‘car of the future’ Target 2020 exhibition is a must. For the past two years, tertiary winners of the competition, open to tertiary and secondary students, have been snapped up by Ford and Holden.
“Every year the standard of entries to Target 2020 gets better and better. It really is encouraging to see that the next generation of Australian vehicle designers is so creative,” Mr Purchase said.
