The Board of CAMS has appointed the Commission Chairs for 2009. In making these appointments, the Board has reappointed the Chairs of the Australian Motor Racing Commission (AMRC), Australian Rally Commission (ARCom) and the Australian Historic Commission; and has appointed a new Chair for the Australian Off Road Commission (AORCom).

The appointed Chairs are:
Australian Motor Racing Commission (AMRC) – Graeme Emerton
Australian Rally Commission (ARCom) – Colin Trinder
Australian Historic Commission – Bob Cracknell
Australian Off Road Commission (AORCom) – Ben Erceg

The Board has also re-appointed Allan Moffat OBE as the Chair of the Australian Motor Sport Commission (AMSC) to continue the transition of its operations back into CAMS.

Ben Erceg, who has for the last three years held the position of Deputy Chairman of AORCom, has been a member of several panels and committees during his lengthy involvement in motor sport including the South Australian Off Road Panel and the SA State Council.

Erceg’s appointment replaces long-serving Chairman John Paterson whose service and dedication is recognised and applauded by CAMS.

“During his tenure as Chairman of the Australian Off Road Commission and previously Chairman of the Australian Off Road Committee, John has made an enormous and outstanding contribution to the sport of Off Road Racing, and through his focused and forthright style he has depicted very strong leadership, which has continued to see the Off Road discipline go from strength to strength. This is testament to John’s leadership ability and passion for Off Road,” said CAMS President Colin Osborne.

“John has always shown a great sense of passion in what he does and I look forward to his continuing contribution to Australian motor sport in the future.”

CAMS has also advertised for expressions of interest to appoint chairs for three new Commissions as part of the ongoing implementation of a new, consultative and advisory model across the organisation. The new Commissions are the Australian Sport and Club Development Commission, the Australian Officials Commission and the Australian Marque/Touring/Enthusiasts Commission.

The process to appoint State based representatives to these commissions is now underway and the remaining appointments to implement the new consultative and advisory model from 1 January 2009 will be made at the CAMS Board meeting on 12 December 2008. In addition, the Board has accepted a recommendation of the CEO for the retention of the National Motorkhana Committee to operate as a Sub-Committee of the Australian Sport and Club Development Commission. This recommendation and decision reflects an acknowledgment of the CEO and Board of the work of this Committee focussed heavily on the activities of this entry-level discipline and also the willingness of the Board to assess feedback from its constituents on the merits of any issue.

The Board has also acknowledged the CEO’s nomination of Peter Deck to continue in the role of Chair of this Committee.
